It is more than 60 years now, since the foundation of Pedodontics in India was laid down in Government Dental College, Amritsar, in 1950. Pediatric dentistry in India has evolved ever since its initiation as a part of orthodontia/conservative dentistry to separate a specific specialty. Following Amritsar, King George Medical College, Lucknow (1967), Post Graduate Institute (PGI) Chandigarh (1976) and Government Dental College, Bombay (1982) were among the first few institutions offering Pediatric Dentistry as a separate specialty.

Today, as many as 108 institutions all over India are offering pediatric dentistry post graduation. Yearly about 321 Postgraduate seats are available in India. Senior pediatric dentists are Principals and Deans of many institutions in India.

Nearly 42% of Indian population consists of children. For providing oral and dental health care services to this population, there is need of efficient Pediatric dentists. With widened scope of pediatric dental practice and job opportunities in India and globally, more and more graduates prefer pediatric dentistry. All the institutions and faculty have the obligation to maintain good quality in teaching and training under-graduate and postgraduate students. Therefore faculty should emphasize on updating themselves with new developments, techniques, and research aspects, so that they can pass the knowledge to the student community. National conferences, conventions and CDE programs are few means of knowledge up-gradation.

Indian Research in the field of dentistry existed since its initiation, but, ever since the Apex body (Dental Council of India) made research and publications mandatory for the faculty to grow in their academic carrier, research aspect has gained more importance.

I also wish to congratulate the organizing committee of 33rd ISPPD National Conference, Mangalore, for excellent organization of conference. I hope the scientific content will satisfy the hunger for knowledge of the staff and Postgraduates of our community.

We are receiving requests from authors for withdrawing the articles which are accepted for publication in forth coming issue of our journal, as they have submitted the same article to other journals meanwhile. This causes a lot of inconvenience to the editorial team. So it is hereby informed to all the contributors to make up their mind before online submission of articles and the original copyright to the editor and wait for their turn.
