Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry (Pediatric Dentistry) has started in India 1962 at Amritsar followed by Lucknow and Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (P.G.I.M.E.R), Chandigarh. Since then, it has progressed in leaps and bounds. A Pedodontist can treat the child up to the age of 18 years as suggested by American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Further, Council on Child and Adolescent Health suggested that the age limit up to 21 years.

The recently revised BDS curriculum has notified in the Gazette of India on 25 th August 2011 that the pediatric dentistry subject in the second half of the final year university examination. Pedodontist treats all the diseases in children apart from some privileged treatments viz., psychological, handicapped, and mentally retarded to maintain their possible optimum oral health.

I am sure that all Pedodontists in India are aware of the decision taken during the conference at Amritsar 2010 to celebrate "Pedodontics Day" on 14 th November every year. This day was selected after deliberations at Amritsar that the first conference of I.S.P.P.D was held at PGI Chandigarh in 1978 on 14 th November coinciding with the children's day. The day should be celebrated to have promotional activities to improve oral and overall health of the Pedodontic patients.

The Annual conference of I.S.P.P.D will be held from 2012 onwards in the last week of September or in the middle of October keeping in mind the Dasara and Deepavali festivals, at the convenience of organizers; so that all the Pedodontists will be available at their places to celebrate "Pedodontics Day" on 14 th November.
