India is progressing in various fields of technology and health care facility, our field of pediatric dentistry is also making significant progress in providing quality dental care for children who require treatment.
Dental experience for the children of today is much more pleasant in view of improved techniques and newer materials. Fear of painful dentistry no longer exists for most children. A specific case in point is the use of lasers in minor intraoral soft tissue surgeries such as frenectomies, pulpotomies, etc. where in procedure is mostly painless and blood free, reducing anxiety for the children.
Increased use of rotary endodontics is reducing chair side time considerably. Transitional pediatric implants for missing teeth are slowly developing as a potential alternative to the conventional space maintainer therapy.
Use of various medicaments such as conscious sedation, general anesthesia, etc. is being utilized for the management of special children to their highest standards.
With the growing awareness of oral and dental health among general population in India, preventive pedodontics has gained more importance. Use of specific anticaries material such as remenerilizing paste containing CCP-ACP with fluoride is fast changing the landscape of preventive pedodontics.
"Early Diagnosis for Prevention" has become the norm today.
I would also wish the organizing committee of 33rd ISPPD National Conference, Mangalore, all the success. I hope the scientific content and knowledge expressed in the conference will help the faculty and postgraduate students of our community to upgrade themselves and progress to higher levels.
