Dr. Kapil Rajiv Sharma, who was working as the Professor and head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at H. P. Government Dental College and Hospital, Shimla, left for heavenly abode on June 19, 2015, following a massive cardiac arrest during the duty hours at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla. His death is an irreparable loss to the department and to the family, which can never be compensated by any means. He was gifted with a charismatic personality filled with good human qualities, immense values and tremendous contribution to his subject and department. This kind-hearted man will always be remembered for his noble deeds, who left an indelible impression on everyone.
He was born on September 19, 1966, in Una district (Himachal Pradesh) and was a brilliant student throughout his school. His professional qualification included Bachelor's Degree in Dentistry and postgraduation in pediatric dentistry which was completed in the year 1988 and 1991, respectively, from the prestigious institution, Faculty of Dental Sciences, KGMC, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh).
Being the youngest pedodontist, who joined the HP Government health services in the year 1992, he was courageous, decisive, vocal and was known for speaking out his mind. He was among the pioneers of the specialty in the state. Moreover, while he was the head of the department, he held different positions and responsibilities simultaneously of medical superintendent and vice principal and left an indelible impression on everyone. We, the fraternity of pediatric dentistry feel ourselves fortunate enough to be associated with this legend. In the end, we would mourn the untimely death to recall and commemorate his marvelous deeds and achievements which will be a tribute to this great soul.
