[AUTHOR:1]Dr. Balwant Rai Vacher left for heavenly abode on Friday, 2nd March, 2012 after a brief illness at Chandigarh. This noble kindhearted soul will be remembered for his amazing contribution to Indian Dentistry as well as his virtuous and human; qualities forever. He was born on 21st February, 1921 in Sialkct (Punjab), now part of Pakistan. He did his graduation in Dentistry from "D Montmorency College of Dentistry, Lahore" (Pakistan) afterwards renamed as "Punjab Dental College". Later on he completed his MSD in Pediatric dentistry from University of Illinois (Chicago). This legendry further did his specialization in Pediatric Dentistry as well as in Orthodontics. Dr. Balwant Rai Vacher was regarded as the most suave dental educationist. He was a gem of a person and a genius blessed with unusual talent and intelligentsia. He was known for his passion, courageousness and farsightedness. Dr Vacher was a great visionary encouraging contemporary dentistry and will always remain a leader. He served as Principal in Punjab Govt. Dental College, Amritsar from 1963 to 1979s the ever longest stay of an educationist in an institution,, He was known to be the Father of Pedodontics due to his immense contribution to the subject of Pedodontics.
How ominously these words follow fallow each other in text "live", 'die but there is a comma between live & die and surely as it is in words so is in reality? How brief is the distance between life and death!
In fact there is none. Life is death's vesfibufie and our pilgrimage on earth is but for a last journey to the heaven.
The death of legendry "teacher of teachers" on 2nd March, 2012 at Chandigarh was moaned, tributes were pouring in not only from the dental fraternity but from various personalities of repute. He was a simple kind hearted and gentle person who sacrificed his life, lived for the cause of others. He impressed others by his sweet woke. Dr. Balwant Rai Vacher was a noble soul, devoted his life for the cause of humanity, dental education and patient care.
He was a pride of the nation. His death leaves a heartache and it cannot heal. We the fraternity of Pediatric Dentistry mourn the demise of this legend.
